Kindergarten at GCS

The GCS Kindergarten Program nurtures students’ physical, spiritual and intellectual development, preparing them to be successful students in elementary school. Kindergarteners learn how to be productive and cooperative in an environment specifically designed to foster their individual and collective gifts. Our talented Kindergarten teachers dedicate themselves to building strong relationships with each student while helping them rise to an academic challenge.

Grace also offers Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to help bridge the gap between preschool and kindergarten for children who would benefit from a little more time to grow and mature. Our TK Program introduces children to school readiness skills and classroom structure, while also working to develop social, emotional, academic and developmental skills.

GCS Kindergarten establishes an early education foundation in literacy development, foundational mathematical skills, and experimentation through STEM programming.

The Kindergarteners’ daily schedule includes instruction in core content areas of Bible, Social Studies, Science, Math, Reading and Language Arts.

GCS Kindergarteners also have fun with Spanish vocabulary in preparation for more advanced study during their early elementary years.

Today’s GCS education has a technological advantage unlike any other.

Technology-rich classrooms provide a flexible and enhanced learning experience. Kindergarten students use Touchscreen Chromebooks to engage applications that bolster their literacy and math skills.

As your child graduates to Elementary School, our STEM Program will expand their exploration of science, technology, engineering and math.

Kindergarten students enjoy a variety of fine arts throughout the course of the school year. Choir, Music and Art provides students opportunities to develop skills, express themselves, learn God’s Word, and ultimately praise and honor the Lord creatively.

GCS Kindergarteners learn to play well with others through formal instructional time, recess and sport camps.

Structured play that develops both their gross motor skills (which involve whole body movement) and fine motor skills (which involve the coordination of small muscle movements) helps students recognize and accept themselves as unique persons created by God.

The Kindergarteners’ daily schedule includes various opportunities for students to enjoy the outdoors and exercise. Weather permitting, students will have a daily outdoor recess.

GCS Kindergarteners have additional opportunities to explore sports and activities through our after-school Enrichment Program and summer camps. Programs for K5 include ballet, cheer, gymnastics, and soccer, with additional programs available once your child reaches Elementary School.

— The Spiritual Formation of GCS Kindergarten Students —

God’s love for each child as His special, unique creation is demonstrated through the words and actions of our teachers on a daily basis. Starting in Kindergarten, our primary focus at Grace Christian School is the spiritual formation of our students. Integrated into each classroom lesson or activity, and every student-teacher relationship, is a desire for students to understand the depth of Jesus’ love for them.

GCS Kindergarteners are introduced to Biblically-based concepts of who God is; the purposes of God creating man; man’s relationship with God; the atoning work of Jesus Christ; the presence and work of the Holy Spirit; and the purpose of living a life seeking to glorify God through participating in His active work on earth.

Specifically, this is accomplished through:

  • Christ-centered educators who desire that their students be equipped with “every good work.”
  • Engaging weekly chapel programs, helping students to focus their hearts and minds on Christ.
  • Embedding the Word of God in the hearts of students through scripture memorization.
  • Approaching Bible instruction as an academic class.
  • Discipleship between teachers and students that, with God’s help, will lead to the student walking humbly with our God.
  • Service opportunities, locally and beyond, providing students the opportunity to put their faith into practice by serving others.

Kindergarteners who need help being academically successful in the classroom will find the support they need through our Learning Support Program (LSP).

LSP is a multi-tiered level model that provides support tailored to the student’s God-given skill sets or learning styles. These early-learning programs are supplemental in nature and support learning of Kindergarten standards upheld in the general classroom. Students can address areas of academic need while discovering how God has wired them to problem solve, think critically and creatively, make decisions, and work collaboratively. Kindergarten Math and Literacy programs are designed to target the student’s current level of performance and needs. Literacy support addresses phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

The Kindergarten program at Grace Christian School strives to foster our students’ social and emotional development. Our purpose is to socially prepare our students for lifelong fellowship in the body of Christ. Teachers, guidance and administration educate children to respect themselves and others, to understand both the distinctions and similarities God has given us, and to cherish others as God’s gift.

School Counseling & Guidance

Our goal is to improve student success by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program beginning as early as the elementary years. Your student’s success is our top priority and we work to collaborate with your family, community, teachers, and administrators. Our guidance counselor advocates for students while acting as a systems-change agent when needed. Learn more about our Guidance Services.

GCS students and families often quickly find the GCS campus to be a second home-away-from-home. Our most historic building, the original Grace’s Chapel is now the home to our Kindergarten program. Our new Kindergarteners love the warm, homey atmosphere of this building with lots of opportunities to explore, learn and grow!

Safety and security are a top priority at Grace. Learn more about our facilities and campus security.

Grace Christian School is a community where learning stimulates intellectual and spiritual growth, growth precipitates change, and change empowers students to transform their world. Even at the Kindergarten level, students will learn to put others first. Teachers accomplish this through instruction, modeling and providing opportunities for practice in day-to-day routines as well as participation in programs such as Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse.

Transportation service is available to and from school for our families in the Moore and Harnett County areas. Learn more about Transportation Services.

Extended Care is available before school starting at 6:30am, and after school through 6:30pm.

Enrichment Camps are offered at various times each semester after school. A variety of enrichment and traditional summer camps are also offered.

In order for our students to thrive, we know they need a healthy, balanced diet. We take great pride in the role we play to help provide that nutrition for your student.

Breakfast, snack and lunch are offered through our Grace Café. Kindergarten food is pre-ordered and all items are billed to the student’s FACTS account. In addition, Kindergarten students have a daily in-class snack time. A Grace Café snack is built into the Kindergarten tuition.
