The GCS Fishing Program provides a unique opportunity for students to growth as a Christian through both recreational and competitive Bass Fishing, learning valuable lessons applicable to all aspects of life. Students must participate in such a way that honors their team, our school and the Lord.
The GCS Bass Fishing Team competes in the North Carolina Bassmaster High School and Junior Series, including tournaments at Lake Gaston, Lake Mayo, Lake Norman and Lake James.
Grace Christian is committed to developing a perspective on winning and losing that is consistent with the teachings of the scripture. We expect our athletes to dedicate themselves to this goal. Our challenge is to be in contrast to a sports world that emphasizes winning at any cost. Winning should be one of our goals, but we recognize that sports presents a beneficial learning experience, regardless of the outcome.
The mission of Grace Christian Athletics is to provide an excellent sports program that will help our students develop their God-given abilities. We want our student-athletes to honor and glorify God in all that they do (I Corinthians 10:31). Athletics is something that God allows us to do, not something that defines us. We need to make God first place in our lives (Matthew 6:33).
GCS Fishing team competes year round in the North Carolina Bassmaster High School and Junior Tournament Series.
The Middle School Fishing team is available to students grades 5 through 8 and competes in Junior divisions. This foundational stage of development is the most important level of learning for our Fishing program, and includes:
Middle School Fishing gives us an opportunity to introduce and teach the fundamental aspects of the sport including but not limited to: fish movement and care, equipment, map reading, weather, water & boating safety, and the finesse of angling.
The Fishing season runs year round, with a 2-month break in the winter. The Middle School Fishing team meets for land or water practice at least weekly after school, and compete multiple times a year on the weekends.
The privilege to represent GCS Varsity Fishing is reserved for our top anglers, who have mastered bass fishing fundamentals, and demonstrate a consistent display of the core Christlike characters traits of our athletic program: Diligence, Endurance, Boldness, Obedience, Faith, Humility, and Dependability.
Varsity Bass Fishing participants compete in the NC Bassmaster High School Series, and must be prepared to compete for boat time and work to keep it. Seniority of a participant is not a factor. Our Varsity Bass Fishing team members are judged on ability, work ethic, attitude, and knowledge of the coach’s strategies.
Competing to win is strongly emphasized, without sacrificing the display and the development of Christ-like character. GCS Varsity Fishing team members are expected to act accordingly to their roles on the team, and contribute unselfishly in accordance with their abilities. Competition time will be determined solely by the coach/coaches.

The GCS Fishing Program requires all students to first join the GCS Fishing Club for foundational training and practice. Participation in the club functions as an ongoing tryout where students are moved up to the team as interest, availability and skill warrant. Practices are held on-campus, at local privately-owned ponds, and regional public fresh water lakes.
