An introductory course designed to help each student improve muscular strength, gain knowledge and understanding of weight training theory and practice, and develop a personalized weight-training program.

Utilizing Coding.org and w3schools.com students will learn HTML, JavaScript, and CSS basics. Students will then create their own personal website in WordPress.com to share with for future college applications.

A survey and study in entrepreneurship and business concepts. Students will produce, market, sell, and manage the revenues of a product, and receive a portion of the profits, while learning how real business works.

A study of the essential principles of evangelism and discipleship as they relate to biblical methods of outreach and spiritual growth within the local church. Practical instruction is given about the tools of evangelism and discipleship techniques. Students will gain ministry experience through in-class and out-of-class opportunities.

Students will learn about plants and their role in the environment through interactive lectures in both indoor and outdoor settings.  Applied techniques; emphasis on care and maintenance of plant material, greenhouse structures, and display garden areas. Involves student with hands-on practical experience of growing and care of selected plants. Aesthetics of planning, design and planting; develop a basic understanding of plant nutrition fundamentals. Students will conduct independent learning through making their own collections and observations.

Pre-grad coursework in plant biology, biochemistry,  local flora, medicinal plants from North Carolina State University.

*This class is only available to students that have competed the first semester of Spanish III.

Spanish 3 allows participating students to continue their development of contextual comprehension, verbal conjugation – including compound tenses, and pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary.

This course provides the student with the opportunity to learn and develop the basic rules and skills of volleyball, offensive and defensive skills. Students will learn basic volleyball rules and skills, gain fundamental knowledge of physiological principles, and develop an individualized program based upon the student’s goals, emphasizing muscle strength, muscle endurance, muscle size, and muscle flexibility.

Similar to the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) except that it is fully funded by schools that choose to pursue a JROTC unit without financial assistance from the Department of Defense. The class is designed to give students an appreciation for the origin, advantages and responsibilities of citizenship in our country, to develop in students an understanding of good leadership skills and the advantages of strong moral character, to promote in the students an understanding for the need and application of our national security, and to develop in students a sense of pride and direction in their maturity and personal discipline.

High School Art will focus on the techniques that the students have already learned, in order to master those skills, and introduce new styles and techniques with new projects. Each student should develop their own art style and integrate that into each project. Some projects this semester will include an acrylic canvas still life painting, a watercolor landscape, a self-portrait in charcoal, several abstract projects, and more.

The Concert Band course is designed to provide students with an advancing experience on band instruments. Students will develop skills in analysis, evaluation and synthesis to be able to experience and understand the aesthetics of music and achieve instrumental competency, as well as gain a proficient level of reading music. Students must provide their own instrument.

Approved students interested in serving teachers in the classroom to become more familiar with elementary education, or a particular field of study, may apply for this placement.

 

Approved students may take online dual-enrollment classes for college credit. Participating students may have to provide their own laptop, as computer lab seats are limited.

Teacher: None, available in all elective periods

Students will have the opportunity to focus on their academic studies in a quiet environment with teacher supervision.
