On Friday, September 11, 2026, we had the privilege of welcoming some of our local heroes to GCS for a special time of remembrance, gratitude, and learning.
Our first responders joined us for Chapel, where Sheriff Estes answered student questions, and we had the opportunity to thank and pray over those who faithfully serve our community.
After Chapel, students gathered in t
he North parking lot to meet our first responders, learn more about what they do, and see the vehicles and equipment they use — including patrol vehicles, boats, helicopters, ambulances, motorcycles, and more!
We can’t think of a better way to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, than by spending time with our own local heroes and expressing our gratitude for the sacrifices they make to keep our communities safe.
A heartfelt thank you to Sheriff Brian Estes, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Tramway Rural Fire Department, North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission, North Carolina Forestry Association, FirstHealth of the Carolinas, and their EMS for spending time with our students today. And a special thank you to Jersey Mike’s in Tramway for providing lunch!
