The Athletic Director oversees and coordinates all athletic programs within the school while supervising the assistant athletic director(s) and head coaches.

The Athletic Director’s performance will be evaluated by the Upper School Principal in accordance with school policy and this job description.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Seek to role model in attitude, speech, and action a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ
  • Reserve fields, schedule and oversee sports functions
  • Supervise the arrangement of travel logistics for all sports teams to attend away matches
  • Hire, orient, mentor, and evaluate coaches for all sports teams
  • Maintain and oversee the athletic and sports facilities
  • Coordinate the purchasing, reconditioning and storage of athletic equipment
  • Build community relations and handle media inquiries
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures for the athletics department to ensure the school remains compliant with athletic rules and regulations.
  • Manage the Athletic Department budget, maintaining accurate financial records
  • Plan and execute fundraising events
  • Assign and supervise all personnel for all athletic contests
  • Arrange for payment of all game officials
  • Prioritize the physical, mental, and spiritual welfare of all athletes
  • Work with coaches, teachers and principal to ensure the eligibility of each athlete
  • Work with the principal and school SRO in securing law enforcement officers to provide security for athletic contests
  • Serve as director of special events and promotions for the athletic department, including boosters, banquets, etc.
  • Maintain athletic records
  • Foster relationships via the Alumni Athletic Network
  • Troubleshoot the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Department
  • Oversee all athletic activities, community, student and colleague relations
  • Develop and maintain GCS athletic handbook policy
  • Develop, oversee, and facilitate a system of acquiring volunteers for athletic events and games in conjunction with the Crusader Club
  • Plan parent meetings to explain GCS sports policies
  • Establish a healthy relationship with other AD’s in the area
  • Give prompt attention to complaints
  • Build community relations and handle media inquiries
  • Publish athletic event schedules for the GCS community
  • Monitor all financial reports relating to GCS Athletics
  • Provide timely and accurate records of athletic rosters to insure billing of athletic fees
  • Assist with the design, branding, ordering, distribution, and billing of player gear
  • Other duties assigned as needed


  • 5+ years of high school coaching experience
  • Ability to promote good relationships with specific program areas, other departments, schools and the general public
  • In- depth knowledge of and a passion for sports and education; keen understanding of how young athletes should be developed
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Ability to perform tasks with limited instruction and supervision
  • Experience operating within and overseeing a budget
  • Committed Christ-follower
