Job Overview

To provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program designed to address the social, emotional, educational and occupational needs of all students; and, to guide and counsel individuals and groups of students through the development of educational and career plans.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Seek to role model in attitude, speech, and action a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ.
  • Work individually and with small groups for Social Emotional Learning, and facilitate problem-solving skills/conflict resolution in line with Christian faith and morals.
  • Serve as liaison between parent, teachers, learning specialists, outside professionals and administration as needed, regarding strategies to assist students and in the utilization of school and community resources
  • Provide staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting a student’s performance and behavior.
  • Provide emergency consultation as needed, especially during a crisis.
  • Provide crisis intervention and behavior management.
  • Work with students on education/vocational post-secondary planning.
  • Assist students filling out application forms for school, financial aid and jobs.
  • Send out applications, transcripts and recommendations to schools and agencies.
  • In September and January, review the records of all seniors to check their progress in meeting graduation requirements; and meet with any students who may have difficulty meeting graduation requirements and write letters in conjunction with the Upper School Principal, to parent(s)/guardian(s) regarding any such problems.
  • Coordinate and set up visits of representatives from colleges, technical schools, the military services and private training facilities.
  • Call and write schools to set up visitation appointments and testing for students.
  • Shall provide information on career areas and schools and administer and interpret interest tests.
  • Oversee the Dual Enrollment Program at GCS to include communication with participating colleges and student enrollment assistance.
  • Perform any and all other duties prescribed by the administration.


  • Committed Christ-follower
  • Master’s Degree in School Counseling or related field
  • ACSI certification in School Counseling preferred
  • Experience with students who present with behavioral difficulties or developmental challenges
  • Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in the face of competing demands and external pressures
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues and community members
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, writing, communication and organizational skills
